The Power of Color
The representative exhibition “The Power of Color or How have Colors Conquered the World” at the Ethnographic Museum will take its visitors to the playful world and symbolism of colors which have taken shape throughout the history of mankind under the influence of various cultures.
From now until 30 September, the Ethnographic Museum invites you to the exhibition “The Power of Color or How have Colors Conquered the World”. This is a significant cultural and historical project, aimed at opening the eyes of visitors of all generations to the significance of colors.
The idea is to show the symbolism of colors and how this has developed throughout the history of mankind, across various civilizations and cultures, in view of the fact that each culture has its own set of symbolic meanings tied to different colors. That is why every color has been given a cultural, historical, political, religious, ceremonial, artistic and psychological aspect. The exhibition also shows which natural ingredients were used to extract colors and how that was done in the past. Particular attention has been paid to the role of colors in folk art. The exhibition emphasizes the fact that color is actually a product of our mind; in order to perceive a color, it does not suffice to see it only with our eyes but also to decode the visual signal with our brain. Colors speak to us and tell us so much more than what is visible on the surface and therefore they have a different effect on each and every one of us. This is a truly interesting exhibit and everyone will walk away from it with a better understanding of the true symbolism of colors.
The exhibition is a joint effort by a number of museums and institutions in Croatia, as well as foreign embassies that have been instrumental in procuring museum holdings from other countries.
