The selling exhibition “Collection in Motion”

As of recently, a visit to Zagreb’s Museum of Contemporary Art can turn into a good shopping trip due to its new feature – the Shopworks store, where numerous items inspired by the works presented in the museum’s “Collection in Motion” can be purchased.

As of the end of last year, Zagreb’s Museum of Contemporary Art added another practical and modern feature - Shopworks; a store with designer items inspired by works presented in the museum’s “Collection in Motion”.

The concept for the store dates back to 2009 when the museum was first opened, but the store itself took off in 2011 after meticulous planning, work and selection. Although it seems like a classic museum souvenir shop, Shopworks is in fact much more. It is a place where visitors can purchase items inspired by the genuine exhibits; works by renowned Croatian and foreign artists from the museum’s collection.

The name itself, Shopworks, is indicative of the store’s purpose, but it is important to point out that the items are not identical to those in the museum. They have been redesigned after the museum’s pieces. Therefore, items purchased at the store will remind new owners of the exhibits at the museum, but at the same time provide them with an originally designed item. All of the store’s items have been made by students studying design at the School of Architecture of Zagreb University, which is the patron of the project along with the museum’s custodians.

The store features numerous redesigned items inspired by the works of Joseph Beyus, Boris Bućan, André Cadere, Julio Knifer, Zlatko Kopljar and Josip Vaništa in a way which puts them in the context of modern times and contemporary purpose.

Shopworks is located on the first floor of the museum, alongside the “Collection in Motion” itself.
