The Zagreb Arena Hosts the Handball Finals
Between January 16th and February 1st, Croatia will host the Handball World Championship, which is set to take place in seven cities. Second-round games, as well as the championship final, will be played in Zagreb where a magnificent arena with more than 15,000 seats has been built specifically for this purpose.
The slalom races for both men and women were successfully organized at the beginning of the year on Sljeme summit. Following the events of the Audi FIS World Cup “ViP Snow Queen Trophy 2009”, Zagreb is already looking forward to yet another great sporting spectacle – the Handball World Cup. The championship will take place between January 16th and February 1st in seven cities across Croatia: Split, Osijek, Varaždin, Zadar, Poreč, Pula and Zagreb, all of which now have new, modern sports halls that were constructed for this purpose. The first game will take place in Split at the newly built Spaladium Arena, while Zagreb host the second-round games as well as the championship final. The magnificent Arena Zagreb was constructed for the occasion and, with 15,200 seats, experts rank it among the top four halls of its kind worldwide. The Arena, an imposing edifice with eye-catching architectural features, is located at the southern entrance to the city. A friendly match between the national teams of Croatia and Russia was recently held to mark its official opening. Apart from the new hall, in which numerous fans will support their respective teams during the World Cup, the rest of Zagreb’s varied cultural and entertainment offer will certainly be a good enough reason for numerous sports aficionados to stay in our city and have a great time.
