World puppet theatres once again in Zagreb
Between the 5th and the 11th of September, for the 44th consecutive year, Zagreb will once again be host to some of the best known Croatian and global puppet theatres, which will present themselves during PIF: an international puppet theatre festival. Aside from plays, the festival will feature an array of workshops, exhibitions and seminars about puppetry.
The International Festival of Puppet Theatre, PIF, will be taking place in Zagreb between the 5th and the 11th of September. This renowned festival brings together the best known puppet theatres and their plays, from Croatia as well as abroad. The festival is unique, not only for Zagreb but for all of Croatia, and this year it will be taking place for the 44th time.
According to organizers – the Zagreb International Centre for Cultural Services – this year’s PIF (Pupteatar Internacia Festivalo, in Esperanto) will present a dozen theatres from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, France, Portugal, the United States, Slovakia and Slovenia. It will feature the following plays: The Little Prince, The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish, Journey, Bonecos de Santo Aleixo, In Retrospect by Loco 7 and La MaMa, Thumbelina, The Four Musicians of Bremen, The Enormous Turnip, The Lost Tone, Story of a Horse, Peter Pan, A Fairytale of a Singing Tree…
As in previous years, over the seven days of the festival’s duration, audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy plays by professional as well as amateur theatres, exhibitions, round tables and discussions, seminars, puppet workshops, street programmes and various other events that additionally promote Croatian as well as global puppetry. The success of the festival is complemented by a remarkable publishing activity specialized in the field of puppetry.
