Zagreb, an ideal weekend break destination

According to recommendations by the renowned French daily newspaper, Le Figaro, Zagreb is an ideal weekend break destination. The city has been described as a unique combination of Slavic and Mediterranean lifestyles, while the famous Museum of Contemporary Art makes it an artistic centre of the region.

Zagreb is an ideal weekend break destination! Or so claim the authors of a prominent article recently published in the renowned French daily, Le Figaro, which is the second most-read newspaper in France, which readers have trusted since 1862. According to Le Figaro, Zagreb’s dual identity, a distinctive blend of Slavic and Mediterranean lifestyles, represents a unique image that certainly must be discovered.

However, the city’s traditional appearance as well as its history and unique atmosphere, have in recent years become further enhanced by an important novelty: the magnificent building of the Museum of Contemporary Art and all it offers within. This, according to Le Figaro, is one of the main reasons why Zagreb must be taken seriously as a new artistic centre of the entire region.
The article further states how Zagreb appears perfectly maintained with its “horseshoe” of gardens and parks that surround the historic city centre. Apart from the standard passages, in which the author states personal impressions, such as walks along the Upper Town and the Dolac market, the article also mentions that life on the streets, especially during warm weather, is very lively. When it comes to gastronomy, the best place for an introduction to local wines is explicitly said to be the Bornstein winery. Also mentioned are restaurant Baltazar and bistro Amfora under the arcades at Dolac, which are said to be daytime gathering spots of Zagreb’s hype crowd.

However, the weekend tip from the French newspaper is clearly not aimed at last-minute travellers seeing as it suggests to begin the weekend by booking into one of Zagreb’s best hotels, the Regent Esplanade.
Two unavoidable addresses are mentioned in relation to shopping: the Sunday morning flea market at the British Square and the Sheriff & Cherry shoe shop where original Croatian Startas training shoes can be purchased.

What the text does not mention is the fact that Zagreb currently offers over 50 different sightseeing programs, which will help any guest to gain a firsthand experience of all of the main landmarks whilst hearing the most interesting stories of Zagreb.
