Zagreb Classic 2023: Unique Music Experience beneath Stars

Excellent classical music and beautiful ambience of King Tomislav Square is a combination which makes the open-air Zagreb Classic festival a truly special event. This year there is an additional reason to celebrate music.

Zagreb Classic is an open-air music festival taking place at the start of another interesting and intense summer in Zagreb. From 21 June, which is the World Music Day, to 1 July, which marks the tenth anniversary of Croatian accession to the European Union, evenings in King Tomislav Square will be filled with classical music played on a unique music stage beneath stars.

The festival has been held since 2016 and it gathers prominent Croatian and foreign performers with carefully selected repertoire which will thrill classical music lovers. The Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, the Croatian Radiotelevision Jazz Orchestra, the ensemble of the “Komedija” City Theatre, the Zagreb Soloists, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the Ballet ensemble of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb will all perform in the stunning area of the historic square. The audience will also get a chance to listen to Cameristi della Scala, an ensemble coming from the famous Milanese theatre la Scala.

The festival attracts numerous classical music lovers as well as those yet to become fans and is considered one of the events that has had a major role in the establishment of Zagreb’s cultural identity.

“Zagreb Classic, which takes place at the beginning of summer, is the first in a string of cultural events for citizens and visitors of Zagreb to attend. It will certainly provide an excellent experience in the open-air stage in the very heart of the city” said Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević.

In the announcement of the eight concerts to take place, the Zagreb Tourist Board Director, Martina Bienenfeld, said that they are free of charge as in previous years. She also stressed: “This year’s Zagreb Classic will end with a solemn concert organised in collaboration with the Ministry of the Exterior and European Affairs to mark the tenth anniversary of Croatian membership in the European Union.”
