Zaprešić – the Most Beautiful Town in Zagreb County
Zaprešić has been proclaimed the most beautiful and tidiest town in Zagreb County as a result of “The Green Flower”, a traditional action which the Tourist Board of Zagreb County has organized for the last eight years in order to evaluate the tidiness of tourist destinations.
The town of Zaprešić is the laureate of this year’s “Green Flower”, an action which has been organized for the last eight years by the Tourist Board of Zagreb County in order to award the most beautiful and tidiest tourist towns in the region. The laureate is closely followed by Samobor and Velika Gorica.
The process to select the tidiest tourist towns follows the rules of the nation-wide action, “I Love Croatia”. Tidiness is just one of the elements which are rated in the overall visual impression made by the competing towns. Apart from being voted as the tidiest town in Zagreb County, Zaprešić has also won an award in the nation-wide action, “I Love Croatia - The Green Flower”, and has taken third place in the category of towns with populations under 20,000.
These awards are proof of the recent efforts made in order to bring the town up to scratch. The town’s park in John Paul II Square has also won third place in the category of the most beautiful parks in Zagreb County.
Located to the northeast of Zagreb, Zaprešić boasts a long and colorful history, which has gradually become the backbone of its tourist offer. The month of October packs events which confirm that this is indeed so. The “Days of Ban Josip Jelačić” festival will take place between the 3rd and the 18th of October and offers visitors many attractive programs, including a Debutante Ball, a Ban Jelačić Trophy steeplechase race, a firefighting challenge, a scooter race, various exhibitions, concerts, etc.
