The Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia is a government body established and organised to provide advisory, administrative, professional and other services required in the preparation and implementation of decisions and decrees by the President of the Republic of Croatia, and in the exercise of the presidential powers and performance of the duties defined by the Constitution and laws.
The Office performs some tasks from its scope of work in cooperation with the expert staff services of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian Parliament, other legal entities vested with public authority as defined by law, as well as the institutions, public administration bodies and units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia.
The President of the Republic appoints his advisers, their deputies and assistants. Advisers, deputy advisers and assistant advisers answer to the President of the Republic and his Chief of Staff for monitoring the state of affairs and drafting proposals for action in their areas of responsibility. The Chief of Staff runs the Office’s operations. Presidential advisers coordinate their activities with him and plan necessary support.
The Chief of Staff is a high ranking state official and holds the powers of the head of a body of public administration, thus being the senior authority to Office employees. Presidential advisers are assisted in their work by their assistants, civil servants and employees of the Office. The President of the Republic may appoint commissioners and secretaries in charge of specific areas who, as a rule, are not employed in the Office.
