Današnja pravoslavna crkva Preobraženja Gospodnjega nalazi se na mjestu nekadašnje katoličke crkve sv. Margarete, koja je bila župna crkva zagrebačkog podgrađa. Između te crkve i Ilice nalazilo se nekada katoličko groblje, a kasnije je pravoslavna općina na tom mjestu sagradila zgradu po projektu arhitekta Bartola Felbingera.
Zanimljivo je da je današnja pravoslavna crkva Preobraženja Gospodnjega između Ilice i Cvjetnog trga (Preradovićevog trga) u Zagrebu sagrađena na mjestu nekadašnje katoličke crkve sv. Margarete.
Ta je katolička crkva bila podignuta još početkom 14. stoljeća (spominje se već 1334. godine) i služila je kao župna crkva za zagrebačko podgrađe. Oko nje je bilo tzv. Margaretsko groblje, na kojem su pokapani stanovnici gradskog podgrađa, gradski kmetovi iz Trnja i sirotinja iz Šoštarske vesi (područje sjeverno od današnjeg Trga bana Jelačića). Isusovac otac Ljudevit dao je to groblje ograditi 1622. godine. Uz tu se crkvu sv. Margarete održavao tzv. Margaretski sajam, svake godine 13. srpnja.
Dozvolu za održavanje tog sajma ishodio je Gradec 1372. godine, kako bi oslabio trgovinu susjednog Kaptola i proširio svoje tržište. Na početku 16. stoljeća to je prestala biti župna crkva, a postala je područna kapela župe sv. Marka.
Sajmište je 1641. preneseno na Harmicu. Za kapelu sv. Margarete u 17. i 18. stoljeću brinuli su se isusovci. Taj je red ukinut 1773. godine, a poznato nam je i to da kapela sv. Margarete 1779. više nije imala crkvenu namjenu.
Godine 1794. gradska ju je uprava Gradeca prodala, zajedno s okolnim zemljištem (koje je sezalo sve do Ilice) pravoslavnim trgovcima (u to doba pretežito grčke narodnosti).
Pravoslavna je zajednica postojeću crkvenu građevinu preuredila, a na mjestu Margaretskog groblja izgradila je 1822. zgradu prema projektu arhitekta Bartola Felbingera (to je danas zgrada na adresi Ilica 7).
Godine 1866. izgrađena je nova crkva, prema projektu Franje Kleina. Danas je ta crkva jednobrodna građevina s polukružnom apsidom i zvonikom na pročelju. Kao uspomena na katoličku crkvu sv. Margarete ostalo je do danas još samo ime ulice istočno od crkve – Margaretska ulica.

I am sorry that I have not had the opportunity to stay longer and see a little more, but the Jarun Lake and clubs impressed me, has all the elements of good entertainment.

This is our first time in Zagreb. We're really having a great time. We won't be able to see the coast, but we'll get some rest and walk around the city...

Jesse Eisenberg (actor) spent the autumn in Zagreb in 2007: Zagreb is an incredible town. I enjoyed sightseeing the old parts of the town, and at night I went to clubs. I was thrilled that it was near Austria and Italy, so I visited Venice, Milan, Ljubljana, Graz, Split... over the weekends.
