A large exhibition of Croatian expressionism

In an array of successful exhibitions, the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery is opening the new season with yet another large exhibition, “Passion and rebellion – Expressionism in Croatia”, which is dedicated to Croatian achievements in the creation of the largest artistic movement of the early 20th century.

On September 6th, the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery is opening the new season with a large exhibition “Passion and rebellion – Expressionism in Croatia”. Thus, after the well-visited exhibition “Silent Rebellion – The Greatest Masters of German Expressionism”, organized in late 28008, visitors will now have the opportunity to gain an insight into Croatian achievements in the creation of the greatest European artistic movement of the early 20th century.

As an artistic movement, expressionism was accepted in Croatia from a very early stage; it was promoted from the beginning of the First World War and it was equally represented in literature, fine art and theatre. This exhibition is the first time that works by notable Croatian artists of this period, within the wider framework of European art, have been presented together in one location. It consists of more than 300 works, including those by painting innovators such as Ljubo Babić, Marin Tartaglia, Zlatko Šulentić and Milivoj Uzelac.

The public will also have an opportunity to view drawings and print works, which are among the most transparent aspects of expressionism, by Vilko Gecan, Marijan Trepše and Sergio Glumac; there will also be artistic contributions to expressionism by many other noteworthy artists, musicians and authors such as Miroslav Krleža and Antun Branko Šimić from the field of literature, and Blagoje Bersa and Boris Papandopulo from the field of music. In the field of architecture, there will be pioneer works by Drago Ibler and Ignjat Fischer, as well as many others who have left their mark on expressionism.
The exhibition will remain open until November 6th.
