An Impressive Program – Pleasure Guaranteed

A new theatre season has started with a handful of good shows on the programs of Zagreb’s theaters. The Croatian National Theater has announced no less than 10 world premieres and the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will not disappoint either as it promises to bring prominent international musicians and orchestras as guests at their traditional concert cycles.

The Croatian National Theater, the biggest national theater house, will add ten world premieres of drama, opera and ballet performances to their already impressive artistic repertoire.  Among them is Peter Pawlik’s take on “Cinderella”, one of the most complex operas written by the great master Gioachino Rossini. The world premiere has been announced for the 16th of January next year. On the 25th of October, the ballet ensemble will perform Derek Dane’s choreography of “Lady of the Camellias”, directed by the choreographer to the score by the contemporary American composer Carl Davis.
Ivica Boban will dramatize and  direct the world premiere of Horace McCoy’s famous novel “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They”, on the 21st  of  November.

Highlights from the impressive musical program of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall: a concert by the Symphony Orchestra of the Croatian Radio and Television, announced for the 22nd of September; the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra will perform on the 26th of September and the German Symphony Orchestra from Berlin on the 4th of October. The Symphony Orchestra of the City of Birmingham is scheduled to perform on Wednesday, the 15th of October in the Vatroslav Lisinski Great Hall. The Italian Enrico Rava Quintet and the Kenny Werner Quintet from USA will both perform as guests of the Lisinski & HDS Jazz Cycle, on the 7th of October and the 17th of December respectively.

In December, the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will host the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra. Another highlight is the “Magic of the Harp” with the first harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Like the Lisinski Hall, the Croatian National Theatre is putting together a festive repertoire to put the drama, ballet and opera-goers in the right mood for the upcoming holiday season (Shakespeare’s “Storm”, Mozart’s “Magic Flute”, P. I. Tchaikovsky’s ballets “Swan Lake” and “Nutcracker” and others).

The other theater houses will also make their mark on the rich cultural season and promise to prepare some equally festive mood-setting tidbits in December.
