An international festival of exquisite music
Between April 25th and May 12th, concert halls and churches around the Upper Town will be venues for the 15th Festival of Saint Mark, reputed as an exquisite international music event.
A diverse programme featuring performances by top class musicians from Croatia and abroad will mark this year’s festival of serious music, the festival of Saint Mark, which will take place in concert halls and churches around the Upper Town. The festival, which will take place for the 15th consecutive time this year, has become a significant international event, featuring a combination of traditional and contemporary music, whose fame has spread beyond the Croatian borders. This year it will kick off on April 25th – to coincide with the holiday of St. Mark, in the namesake church located in the Upper Town, and it will end on May 12th. Audiences can look forward to some top class performances by Croatian as well as foreign musicians and music ensembles, including the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oratorio Choir Cantores Sancti Marci, the quintet of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Porin String Quartet, the Belgrade Male Chamber Choir, as well as many other famous singers such as soprano Martina Zadro, mezzo-soprano Marjana Lipovšak, tenor Domagoj Dorotić, bass Alfred Burgstaller, etc. These soloists, conducted by Vladimir Krnjčević and accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and the Oratorio Choir Cantores Sancti Marci choir of St. Mark’s church, will perform Mozart's Requiem in memory of Neven Valent - the festival’s prematurely deceased founder and longstanding director.
