The 10th jubilee Vip Zagreb Jazz Festival, taking place throughout the year and featuring 15 concerts at various town locations, will kick off on April 8th at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall with a concert by jazz diva Cassandra Wilson.

Jazz diva Cassandra Wilson will open the 10th Vip Zagreb Jazz Festival with a performance at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on April 8th. To mark the jubilee, this year’s festival will be taking place throughout the year, and it will feature 15 concerts by top class jazz musicians from Croatia as well as abroad, at various locations around town.

Cassandra Wilson is a very versatile artist. Apart from being an excellent singer, she is also a songwriter and producer who plays several music instruments. She became hooked on jazz thanks to her father, who also played the guitar, and was her best teacher. Although she has worked with some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world during her career, she does not belong to any specific stream. Instead, she has developed her own original, natural and simple style. She has released numerous albums and won many music awards, including two Grammys, as well as gained an honorary doctorate at Millsaps College. Last year, she was once again hailed as the best jazz singer by critics of the renowned Down Beat magazine.

Apart from Cassandra Wilson, the spring schedule of the festival will also feature performances by Amira Medunjanin, who will promote her latest album on May 15th and 16th, the Carla Bley Trio will hold a concert on June 5th, and a performance by the legendary Dee Dee Bridgewater will take place on June 14th.
