Courtyards – Zagreb As You Have Never Experienced It

The summer edition of this well-loved Zagreb event for the fifth year running invites you into - the courtyards! Each one tells its own story.

Zagreb’s courtyards this year once again tell their story of Zagreb. Over ten days, each day free of charge between 6 pm and midnight, visitors have a unique chance to peer behind the facades of some of the most beautiful Zagreb palaces and experience the magical atmosphere of unique Gornji grad spaces. Plenty of good fun awaits, with good music and live performances, delicious food and refreshing drinks. Two prestigious awards for the most creative and the most innovative tourism projects bear witness to the attractiveness and success of this cultural and tourism project.

Among the buildings opening their doors are: the Balbi Palace, named after Baroness Kornelija Balbi; the Erdödy-Drašković Palace where Croatian prima donna Sidonija Erdödy Drašković spent her childhood; the private courtyard of the Milovac famiy, a location which was home to Hedvig Ban, the great love of the Croatian composer Vatroslav Lisinski; the courtyard at Basaričekova 11 where the cult film “Tko pjeva zlo ne misli” was filmed; the atrium of the Museum of the City of Zagreb; the Gvozdanović Palace where Anka Gvozdanović, pianist and art lover, lived at the beginning of the 20^th century and organised concerts, dances and garden parties, and the courtyard of the house at Radićeva 54 where Vjekoslav Šenoa lived, a patissier at the bishops’ court and father of the writer August Šenoa.
