Dear citizens of Zagreb, dear guests!
We have reached August, a month in which we have prepared for you numerous events which provide real refreshment in these summer months. All of those who have decided to visit our beautiful city or stay in it, as well as those who are returning from their summer holidays will find something to their taste.
This month film lovers have a treat in store. Visit the Pop Up Summer Garden which brings a period full of summer film festivals held in the evening hours. Enjoy Croatian and international DJs and bands as well as delicious eats and refreshing drinks. Fans of documentary film can also visit Dokukino, a week of new documentary films. We have also prepared for you Summer in Kino Europa. Dive into a comfortable armchair and give yourself up to waves of cinematic refreshment from the big screen.
Theatregoers can visit the 32nd Zagreb Histrionic Summer every day except Sundays and Mondays, which is held on the Opatovina summer stage. With their performance of the play “The Daughter of Lotrščak” the Histrion Dramatics Society marks the 60th anniversary of the death of writer Marija Jurić Zagorka. Take advantage of the opportunity and visit the eighth Summer Nights at EXIT Theatre in the Museum of Arts and Crafts which is held for just two more days at the beginning of August.
We invite you to relax at the Zagreb Picnic in Maksimir Park and the Little Picnic at Vranyczany Plateau. Once a week Vranyczany Plateau is transformed into a pleasant oasis for summertime refreshment for the people of Zagreb and tourists with a tempting gastronomic offering. By presenting small local producers and tasting “food from the source” it gains a completely new dimension and creates a relaxed, self-service version of a picnic gathering. Visitors to the Little Picnic can now afford to linger longer and explore all the nooks and crannies of Upper Town, and enjoy the interesting gastronomic offering in a laid-back Old Town atmosphere.
After you visit the Little Picnic at Vranyczany Plateau pop over to Strossmayer promenade, surely one of the most romantic promenades in our city which brings us something of the spirit of a Parisian neighbourhood. Or visit the Art Park festival which is held in one of the most beautiful Zagreb parks, hidden between Tomićeva ulica, Ilica and Strossmayer promenade. The park has once again become a venue for relaxed and creative gatherings. It has been transformed thanks to numerous artistic interventions, film nights, workshops, exhibitions, concerts and sporting afternoons which will be in plentiful supply this year too.
Among the sporting events we’d like to highlight the GRAWE Night Marathon which will be held at the Bundek Lake for the fourth year in a row, as well as the 10th Croatia International Bike Race.
We wish you the happiest moments in Zagreb, our city bathed in summer!
Sincerely yours,
Mayor of the City of Zagreb
Milan Bandić
