First rate pieces performed by first rate musicians

Between the 12th and the 16th of October, Zagreb will once again be host to top class chamber musicians from all over the world, who will perform in this year’s Zagreb International Festival of Chamber Music.

Between the 12^th and the 16^th of October, the Croatian Music Institute, located on Gundulićeva street in the city centre, will be a place of gathering for the world’s top class chamber musicians. The fifth edition of the Zagreb International Festival of Chamber Music will feature twelve concerts by first rate musicians from Latvia, Russia, the Ukraine, France, Israel, Sweden, China, Japan, and Croatia. Their arrival has been confirmed by the members of the Lithuanian chamber orchestra and, for the fourth year in a row, the festival will feature a performance by renowned violinist, Stefan Milenković.

The festival will open on October 12^th with a concert for the violin and violoncello in C-major by Joseph Haydn, and performed by Chinese violoncellist Jing Zhao and the Lithuanian chamber orchestra. Later, on the same day, the Zagreb audience will have an opportunity to listen to yet another Haydn’s piece – Double concert for the violin, piano and orchestra in F-major – while the evening programme will feature Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for the violin, the piano, and the orchestra in E-flat major.

On the following day, audiences will have an opportunity to enjoy a concert for the violin and the string orchestra in D-minor by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, performed by violinist Susanne Yoko Henkel, who is also the festival’s art director, and the Lithuanian chamber orchestra. This will be followed by Mendelssohn’s double concert for the violin, piano and the orchestra in D-minor, and the piano quintet in E-flat major by Robert Schumann. On October 14th, the Contemporary Music Lounge concert will be performed by Stefan Milenković and Michael Barenboim on the violin, Tomoko Akasaka and Guy ben-Ziony on the viola, Jing Zhao and Jakob Koranyi on the violoncello, with the backing by Latvian musician, Lauma Skrida, on the piano.
October 15th will be marked by the Duo for the violin and violoncello by Bohuslav Martinù, the Serenade for a string quartet in C-major by Ernö Dohnànyi, and the piano quintet no. 2 in A-major by Antonin Dvoøàk.
The last day is reserved for composer Johannes Brahms, as the repertoire includes his piano quintet in F-minor and the quartet no. 1 in G-minor.
