Handball Virtuosos in Action – the European Men’s Handball Championship in Croatia
Croatia is the first country to host the European Men’s Handball Championships for the second time.
In four Croatian cities – Zagreb, Split, Varaždin and Poreč – from 12 to 28 January 2018 the best European handball teams will battle for glory. All four cities will host the group phase of the championships, while Zagreb and Varaždin will host the main phase of the competition. Zagreb Arena will be the scene of the semi-finals and the spectacular final which will decide which team will be decorated with the 13th title of Champions of Europe.
The 16 best European teams will compete at the European championships. In Group A, in Split, the teams are Croatia, Serbia, Sweden and Iceland. In Group B, Poreč will host current world champions and European finalists France, world finalists Norway, Belarus and Austria. Zagreb will host Group C, with Germany defending their current title as European champions, winners of third place in the World Championship Slovenia, Macedonia and Montenegro. In Group D in Varaždin in northern Croatia Spain, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Hungary will meet. The European Championships will open in Zagreb with Germany vs Montenegro and Macedonia vs Slovenia.
In the run up to the European Championships the Croatian Handball Federation will be at Zagreb’s award-winning Christmas market and you will be able to ask about the upcoming European Championships. Those who do not manage to grab a ticket for the Zagreb Arena will be able to watch the action in a big fan zone on Trg bana Jelačića, Zagreb’s main square. There will be all kinds of interesting events for fans and anyone who wants to be part of the biggest handball event in Europe.
