International Tourist Guide Day 2013

Zagreb Tourist Guide Association celebrates International Tourist Guide Day by organizing free city tours in Croatian on Saturday 23rd February. Tours start at 10 am and 11am in front of the Tourist Information Center, Ban Jelacic Square. An hour and a half walking tour takes you through Kaptol and Upper Town. There is no registration, just come in the group that suits you best.

February 21st is the globally-recognize  International Tourist Guide Day.This day the Zagreb Tourist Guide Association  promotes its work, which has provided Zagreb’s tourists with the most interesting information about the city for many years.

The Zagreb Tourist Guide Association  was founded in 1973 and this year it marks the 40th anniversaryToday, it consists of a total of 120 members, predominantly academically educated citizens. City tours are available in 13 foreign languages including  Japanese and Chinese. The Association also boasts the first Croatian tour guide for the hard of hearing.

Aside from individual programs, which are available at any time, the Zagreb Tourist Guide Association cooperates with more than 120 domestic as well as foreign travel agencies, ministries, educational institutions, news agencies, sports associations and clubs.
Guided tours  can be ordered directly  ( 
www.vodici-zg.hr ) and they usually begin with a panoramic sightseeing tour of the Lower Town, which lasts approximately 45 minutes. Following is a tour of Mirogoj, the city cemetery, and a tour of the Upper Town and the cathedral.  Visits to the churches of St. Mark and St. Catherine can be also included, as well as  ride on the funicular. Sightseeing ends with a stroll through the city market Dolac, and a visit to the cathedral. The entire programme takes about three hours to complete. 

During the city tour, visitors can discover everything about the city’s history, culture, cult personalities, legends, myths, old customs, as well as the most interesting details of a contemporary lifestyle in the Croatian capital. Arrangements can also be made for guided excursions to Zagreb's  surroundings and other parts of Croatia.
