Nin Salt Factory Museum-Store Opens in Zagreb

Did you ever wonder where salt comes from, how it is made, which type is best and how it can be used? You can find answers at the museum-store of the Nin Salt Factory, recently opened in the centre of Zagreb.

The museum-store of the Nin Salt Factory, which opened in the centre of Zagreb in mid-March, reveals an interesting story of how salt is made today and how it used to be done in the past. The exhibited old tools and photographs bear testimony to the history of the ancient salt factory which dates back to Roman times. It is still located in Nin, nowadays an interesting Dalmatian tourist destination in the vicinity of Zadar where salt is being manufactured in a traditional way, and therefore it has a high nutrition value. The benefits of traditional salt production at the Nin Salt Factory have been recognized by the European Union which has granted it financial incentives.

Regardless of whether you are visiting alone or as part of a group, specialized staff will provide guidance through the museum, and introduce visitors to the ways salt was once made, as well as how it is done today. The visit to the museum-store is also a great opportunity to get some original souvenirs such as salty chocolate, aromatized bath salts, cosmetics and, of course, various types of kitchen salt, including the most valuable “flower of salt”, also often referred to as the “caviar of salt”.
