Righteous People

Between the 20th and the 29th of May, the latest edition of Zagreb’s Festival of Jewish Film will educate audiences about the holocaust, which is the main goal of this unique festival in Europe. Apart from films with Jewish themes and a program dedicated to this year’s theme; “The Righteous People”, there will also be a diverse concurrent program.

Between the 20th and the 29th of May, the fourth edition of Zagreb’s Festival of Jewish Film will offer audiences a unique film program. Its main goal is to educate younger generations about the historic facts, consequences and experiences of the holocaust. This year’s festival is dedicated to the theme of “Righteous People” and in addition to the film program it will also feature educational workshops in the mornings as well as music in the evenings.

As in the previous years, the festival will take place in several locations across town and the film projections will, traditionally, take place at Europa cinema from May 23rd until the last day of the festival: May 29th. Audiences will have an opportunity to see 35 films for free; ranging from old classics, across documentaries and shorts, to newer works of renowned Jewish filmmakers.

The festival will be officially opened with a projection of Academy Award and Golden Globe winner, “The Schindler’s List”, produced by the president of the festival, the well-known producer of Jewish origin: Branko Lustig.
Judging by experience from previous festivals, audiences will have many opportunities to participate in large, daily, international film workshops and the announced theme, which is tied to Jewish culture, history, and tradition, will be discussed every morning during these educational programs.

Music evenings will also be dedicated to similar themes while DJ’s and announced parties will be held in several clubs across Zagreb, which will certainly increase the appeal of this relatively new festival.
