Strawberry Days

Strawberry days, traditionally organized in Zagreb each June, is a manifestation which not only boosts the sale of strawberries, but also promotes the necessity for organically grown fruit which is a high priority in Zagreb’s catering offer.

Alba, Miss, Queen, Clery, Antea, Asja and Madlein; these are not the stage names of pretty girls participating in a beauty pageant, but the sorts of organically grown strawberries which are on offer in Zagreb in June. In appreciation of this tasty and wonderfully smelling fruit which attracts numerous customers, Strawberry Days, an event which last until June 20th this year, is traditionally organized in Zagreb. The strawberries are all being sold for the same price per box, from recognizable wooden stands, by the producers of the “Strawberry Ring” in the Zagreb region. All the strawberries that are being sold at 21 locations throughout the city have been organically grown. A total of sixty producers are participating in this year’s promotional sales of organic-food, while most hotels and restaurants are also designing their culinary offer around strawberries. Along with the freshly picked strawberries, customers are also offered brochures with selected recipes, and it is entirely up to them to decide as to where and what they will try; the selection is great! In any case, the citizens of Zagreb and their guests are offered an abundance of locations where they can enjoy the flavors of various delicacies made from strawberries and decorated in a unique way. However, Strawberry Days does not only encourage the sales of the fruit, but also points out the importance of their organic cultivation, which is a high priority in Zagreb’s catering offer and which has, so far, been well recognized by the increasing numbers of Zagreb’s visitors.
