Summer at Stross 2011
In the shade of chestnut tree canopies, in one of Zagreb’s most romantic promenades, yet another “Summer at Stross” will be taking place from the end of May until September 4th. It is an event that will delight all tourists and offer the best insight into what we often refer to as “the true spirit of old Zagreb”.
One of the most attractive promenades in Zagreb, and certainly the most romantic one in the Upper Town, the Strossmayer promenade, will once again be the stage at which tourists will have an opportunity to enjoy entertainment programmes every day until early September. The “Summer at Stross” is popularly called Zagreb’s Strossmartre, after Paris’ Montmartre. All-day programmes, which began in late-May, offer visitors an abundance of fun and the opportunity to participate or just observe the open-air art colony, concerts of all music genres, original events such as the selection of the most beautiful mixed breed dog, half New Years’ celebration along with fireworks, stand-up comedy performances etc. Film buffs can enjoy the Štros Film Festival with a diverse repertoire of titles that have a creative commons licence (one that allows copying, distribution and public screenings). Films will be screened every evening from 10.30 p.m. and the festival will equally represent films that have already won film awards, as well as those that attract with their unusual themes.
The programme will begin every day at 11 a.m. with art colonies; the entire promenade will be full of painters, paintings and easels, as well as stands with various snacks. Afternoons are reserved for walks in the shade of the canopies of chestnut trees, and exploring numerous features of the Upper Town. In the evenings, however, it’s back to Strossmartre. The music lounge begins at 7 p.m. every day, and then the open-air cinema will screen one film as part of the Štros Film Festival. After 10 p.m. there will be the second concert of the day with all types of music, ranging from jazz to Golden Oldies: nostalgic music of the 1950s, 60s, and the 80s, as well as Latino and gypsy music, and even spiritual and alternative music. All in all, summer in Zagreb truly cannot be boring. For more information on the everyday programmes of Strossmartre, please visit the official website at www.ljetonastrosu.com.
