The Klovićevi Dvori Gallery - Italian Baroque Painting in Croatia

The exhibition “Sacred and Profane – Italian Baroque Painting in Croatia” will remain open until August 2nd at the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery. It features extremely valuable works by Italian baroque masters of the 17th and 18th centuries which were borrowed from various museum and church holdings, as well as private collections from all over Croatia.

Until August 2^nd, the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery will feature the exhibition “Sacred and Profane – Italian Baroque Painting in Croatia”. The exhibition consists of 110 paintings and drawings by Italian baroque masters of the 17^th and 18^th centuries, all of which are part of various museum and church holdings, as well as private collections from around Croatia. Artistically and historically, they are extremely valuable pieces by Italian masters, many of which have never been on public display before. Thematically and chronologically, this exhibition is a continuation of the 2011 exhibition “Tizian, Tintoretto, Veronese – Great Masters of the Renaissance”.

The exhibition consists of several parts and covers a time-span ranging between 1600 and 1800. Apart from works with religious motifs, there are pieces with motifs from everyday life, various battles, veduta, portraits, etc. The exhibition provides an insight into various characteristics of style, ranging from predecessors to baroque, to early and high baroque, to classicism. The exhibition features works by renowned artists from Venice, as well as other painting schools, including Lombardy, Bologna, Rome and Naples.

The co-organizer of the exhibition is the Croatian Conservation Institute. The exhibition catalogue offers articles and analyses by Croatian and Italian experts on the value of baroque painting.
