The 26th Week of Modern Dance will be held in Zagreb, Rijeka and, for the first time, in Split from May 25th to June 3rd. This year the event will take place in a new dance studio in the city center which will be opened just before the start of the largest dance event in the region. The studio, which is comprised of three dance halls, is being built on the location of the former cinema Lika, about 50 meters from the city's main square.
On the schedule for this year's Week of Modern Dance you will find a record number of productions by domestic authors along with the most important names on the European dance scene. As in the previous years, the 26th Week of Modern Dance will kick off with a world famous hit. Therefore, the audience will be able to see the performance of “Monger” - a production by the Suzanne Deltal Center and choreographed by Barak Marshall. “Monger”, currently a huge world hit inspired by the work of Bruno Shultz, as well as the drama “The Maids” by Jean Genet and the film “Gosford Park” by Robert Altman, will be shown on June 18th. That performance will bring Barak Marshall back to Zagreb where he first appeared at the 15th Week of Modern Dance and received a standing ovation for his choreography of “Emma Goldman's Wedding”.
This year's Week of Modern Dance will be opened by the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) dance troupe who were guests in Zagreb eighteen years ago. Along with them, other world renowned troupes and authors will perform, including Karin Holl, Carolyn Carlson, Tero Saarinen, Lucy Guerin, Paolo Ribeiro, together with a record number of appearances by domestic choreographers.
