The Season Starts!

Zagreb’s night life gains momentum in September. Unlike museums, galleries and cinema theatres whose audiences do not dwindle during the summer months, most clubs and theaters reopen their doors when it becomes a little cooler – which means right now! Attractive events vie for visitors…

The third edition of the ZGetno festival will take place between the 15th and 22nd of September at the Students’ Centre in Zagreb. For a week, visitors will be transported to different parts of the world and get acquainted with different cultures and traditions through music.

To those tradition lovers who may be too impatient to wait for the ZGetno Festival to kick off, we recommend the furioso display of the impressive Macedonian music tradition which has been shaped under the influences of the Balkan, Roma, Turkish and other traditions – the Macedonian Kočani Orchestra. This Roma ensemble comes to Zagreb very often because the audiences in Zagreb simply adore it. Its next appearance will be in Tvornica (Factory) on the 5th of September.

Both the declared and closet hip-hop fans must make sure to be at Dom Sportova (Sports Hall) on the 9th of September for a live performance of one of the greatest hip-hop stars of today – Snoop Dogg. The artist is bringing a whole orchestra of musicians and instruments and promises a spectacular evening of hip-hop music.

Electro-beat fans will certainly appreciate the information that the night of the 6th of September is reserved for Invasia – an open air humanitarian music event with numerous DJ’s appearing on two floors. The event will kick off at 7 P.M. and continue until the early morning hours.
 
The month of September also bodes well for culture vultures and those in pursuit of knowledge. In addition to the standard repertoires offered by Zagreb’s theaters, September is also the month of the World Theater, dedicated to the classical works of drama literature. The World Theater Festival will last ten days. The kickoff event will be a concert of the well known hip-hop group TBF from Split on the 19th of September at the Youth Theatre.

One of the highlights of the theatre repertoire is the stage adaptation of Disney’s animated movie “Beauty and the Beast” at the Trešnja Theater.
