The Vienna Philharmonic opens the Zagreb Philharmonic season
To the great joy of the Zagreb audience, one of the greatest orchestras in the world, the Vienna Philharmonic, will open the new season of the Zagreb Philharmonic on September 27th at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.
The Zagreb Philharmonic will open its first European season of 2013/2014 with the music event of the year – a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Lorin Maazel, which will take place on September 27th at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. The eagerly awaited concert of the Vienna Philharmonic is a welcome of sorts for Croatia’s entry to the European Union on July 1st. For the first time since their last performance in Zagreb, ten years ago, the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra will perform its symphony programme, which includes works by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.
The Vienna Philharmonic, one of the greatest contemporary orchestras in the world, represents some of the greatest values of European culture and spirit, so its guest performance within the regular programme of the Zagreb Philharmonic is a great step towards the affirmation of Croatia’s ambition to be part of the common European cultural identity. Every performance by the Vienna Philharmonic is an event of exquisite artistic quality and attracts great attention around the world. Their traditional New Year’s concerts at the Musikverein of Vienna are aired live worldwide. Working with this famous orchestra has made a name for many conductors, the most prominent of whom is Lorin Maazel. The Zagreb audience had an opportunity to meet maestro Maazel during the opening ceremony of the 1987 Univerzijada in Zagreb, when he conducted the Zagreb Philharmonic.
Tickets for the concert by the Vienna Philharmonic can be purchased as part of the Zagreb Philharmonics Blue Cycle subscription, as well as individually.
