Theatre plays and concerts at a museum

Throughout the summer, the atrium of the Croatian Natural History Museum in the Upper Town will be the main stage of Zagreb’s popular Amadeo club scene, which will feature daily concerts, theatre plays, and projections of the best films from all over the world.

The Amadeo theatre and music stage is returning to the Upper Town this summer, to the atrium of the Croatian Natural History Museum.

As part of the 11th Amadeo program, numerous events will take place throughout the summer – between the 12th and 31st of July, and, again, after a brief pause, between August 16th and September 5th.

For a few years, the Amadeo festival programmes were staged at the Museum of Arts and Crafts, only to grandiosely return to their original venue at the atrium of the Croatian Natural History Museum whose ambiance, architecture, and acoustics provide an excellent setting for theatre and ballet plays, concerts, exhibitions and various other multimedia events.

This year’s event will begin with the opening of the “Soul Prints” exhibition, homage to the late academic painter and graphic designer Izabela Šimunović, who was a member of the Amadeo Stage Programme Committee.

Since the beginning, the Amadeo theatre and music club extravaganza has been an attractive cultural event featuring performances by renowned artists from Croatia as well as abroad. Each edition features an average of sixty theatre plays and concerts, which fulfil the high criteria of programme selection.

The festival organizers focus their attention on concerts of classical music, especially by talented young musicians, as well as jazz concerts by affirmed names from the world of music, in addition to concerts of world and popular music. The Amadeo Stage has also featured some theatre premieres, and commissioned work from Croatian composers which have had their world premiere in Zagreb.

The event additionally features a rich film programme organized this year under the title “Pula in Zagreb”. Along with numerous short films, the audience will have an opportunity to see the best films from festivals across the globe.

In summary, this year’s Amadeo Stage, like its previous editions, will enable the Zagreb audience to experience the music of renowned classical, jazz, and ethno musicians, as well as view chamber theatre plays and one-man plays performed by artists from Croatia as well as abroad, and enjoy many interesting films.
