To Europe with Caravaggio

Until August 31st, the permanent exhibit of the Museum of Arts and Crafts will feature Caravaggio’s priceless masterpiece of Baroque art, “Supper at Emaus”. It has been borrowed from the Pinacoteca di Brera of Milan as one of the most beautiful gifts for Croatia’s accession to the EU.

Between June 6th and August 31st, the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb will feature the exhibition “To Europe with Caravaggio/Supper at Emaus” from the Pinacoteca di Brera of Milano. The aforementioned painting is Caravaggio’s priceless masterpiece of Baroque art, dating from 1606. Nowadays, the painting is originally exhibited at the Pinacoteca di Brera of Milan, from which it is being loaned as one of the most beautiful gifts for Croatia’s entry to the EU.

Caravaggio’s “Supper at Emaus” will be exhibited as part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Arts and Crafts. The loan was realized thanks to the initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Italy and the Croatian Embassy in Italy. Therefore, visitors who buy tickets for the museum’s permanent exhibit will also have an opportunity to see Caravaggio’s “Supper at Emaus”, as well as partake in a giveaway in which the first prize is a trip to Milan for two, including a visit to the Pinacoteca di Brera.

Apart from seeing the exquisite oil on canvas from the Baroque period, visitors will get a glimpse into the artist’s turbulent lifestyle. Free expert guided tours will take place from Tuesday through Saturday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., as well as on Sundays at 11 a.m.

Throughout the exhibition, there will be many creative workshops titled “Caravaggio in a Hundred Ways”. The Faculty of Textile Technology will team up with the museum for a fashion show with a baroque twist, while a concert by the Croatian Baroque Ensemble will be conducted by Saša Britvić; there will also be numerous specialist lectures, etc.
