Tourist Numbers Up by One Fifth!

Last August, Zagreb reaffirmed its position as a town that attracts the interests of an increasing number of tourists. Their numbers were as much as 21 per cent higher than the same month the year before. The results recorded in the first eight months of the year have confirmed: a new city break star has been born!

According to the data of the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb, in August 2007, Zagreb was visited by 64.2 thousand tourists who accounted for nearly 105 thousand overnights. This is a 21 per cent and 16 per cent rise on August 2006 in the number of arrivals and overnights, respectively. Of the total number of tourists, over 56 thousand were foreigners who recorded nearly 90 thousand overnights, or 21 per cent and 18 per cent more than in August last year, respectively. When it comes to tourist arrivals, guests from Spain take the lead among the first five on the list, followed by the French, Italians, Germans and tourists from the USA. As for the number of overnights, the Spaniards are followed by the Italians, the French, the Germans and guests from the USA. The number of domestic guests went up by 17 per cent. The 8 thousand of them accounted for over 17 thousand overnights, which is an eight per cent increase.

According to the statistical data of the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb, during the first months of the year, over 386 thousand tourists visited Zagreb, accounting for over 703 thousand overnights. With respect to the same period last year, this is a 15 per cent increase in the number of arrivals and a 10 per cent increase in the number of overnights. Along with the traditionally frequent guests from Germany and Italy, Zagreb is gaining increasing popularity with tourists from the USA, France, Japan, Spain and Great Britain.
