Two World Festivals in Zagreb
Jazz aficionados will soon have the opportunity to enjoy performances by one of the greatest jazz saxophonists in the world. Zagreb will be host to Sonny Rollins, who will perform as part of this year’s 5th Vip Zagreb Jazz Festival. Soon thereafter, at the 10th No Jazz festival, many other top class jazz musicians will perform.
Traditionally, autumns in Zagreb are reserved for jazz lovers. After the recently finished 19th International Days of Jazz, two more jazz festivals will be held in November; the 5th Vip Zagreb Jazz festival, which will take place between the 5th and the 7th of November, and the 10th No Jazz festival, from the 10th to the 16th of November.
During the opening of the Vip Zagreb Jazz festival, the Croatian capital will be host to a real jazz spectacle; the unforgettable Sonny Rollins, one of the best jazz saxophonists in the world, will be performing at the Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall. The following two evenings, the Student Centre cinema will feature performances by multiple Grammy Award winner, a soprano and tenor saxophone player, as well as composer, Branford Marsalis, and one of the most versatile musicians of contemporary jazz, the renowned trumpeter, composer and arranger, Terence Blanchard.
Several days after the ending of that festival, jazz aficionados will again have an opportunity to enjoy yet another jazz spectacle; the 10th No Jazz festival, which will start on November 10th. The provocative American musician, Lydia Lunch, with her project “Lydia Lunch's Big Sexy Noise” will open the festival, while there will also be performances by numerous domestic musicians, as well as guests from America, Germany, Japan, Bulgaria, Portugal, and Great Britain. The festival, with the full name “Not Only Jazz Festival”, which relates to its diverse repertoire, will be held at the ITD Theatre, and it will go on until November 16th.
