World Ice-skaters Descend Upon Zagreb
Between the 12th and the 14th of November, the ice rink of Dom Sportova sports hall will be the venue for the 42nd Golden Pirouette, one of the oldest international ice-skating competitions in the world, featuring the best skaters from Croatia and abroad.
The famous Golden Pirouette of Zagreb, which is regularly attended by the best skaters in the world, will be held between the 12th and the 14th of November at the ice rink of Dom Sportova sports hall.
Over the course of the three-day competition, audiences will be able to enjoy standard men’s and women’s competitive programs, as well as ice-dancing couples, while the final day of the competition is reserved for an attractive winners review.
The first Golden Pirouette was organized in 1967 and, since then, it has turned into an attractive international ice-skating competition, which is now one of the oldest such contests in the world. Over the years, skaters from 51 countries have performed in the competition. Among them were many famous skaters who often returned to Zagreb after finishing their skating careers, in order to act as coaches or judges. To name a few: Anett Potzsch, Katarina Witt, Dagmar Lurz, Christina Kristofich-Binder, Agnes Gosselin, Jeri Campbell, Kelly Szmurlo, Laszlo Vajda, Sergej Volkov, František Pehchar, Jan Hofmann, Jean Christophe Simond, Rudi Cerne, Heiko Fischer, Scott Hamilton, Viktor Petrenko and many others. Among the Croatian ice-skaters tied to the Golden Pirouette are: Sandra Dubravčić-Šimunjak, Idora Hegel, etc.
