Zagreb Design Week: Changing the Game
The sixth Zagreb Design Week, which will take place from 7 to 12 May, questions new mechanisms, projects and ways of thinking which are shaping our future and the role of a designer in these changes.
The sixth Zagreb Design Week, which will take place from 7 to 12 May, is the largest Croatian design festival. It will host large design exhibitions, exhibitions of faculties and schools linked to design, conferences, lectures, workshops, panel discussions, presentations and portfolios of young professionals and students.
This year Zagreb Design Week presents the Republic of Poland as a partner country so visitors will have a chance to see the ABCs of Polish Design exhibition which marks a centenary of design in the country.
Among numerous professional events we would like to single out the exhibition and panel discussion dedicated to a hundred years of Bauhaus, the most influential school of design in the world which lay foundations for design as we know it today.
The central venue of Zagreb Design Week is the Technical museum Nikola Tesla, the Hall V which has been renovated to suit this project. A design park was built in an area covering more than 4000 square meters, where numerous installations will be showcased and many interventions into space will be displayed while applying the principles of using design to affirm space and bring life to community.
The festival invites wide audience and its range of activities and formats caters to all age groups and all levels of professional interest.
A rich selection of social events, dedicated to design in various fields of life and work, will be held in several partner locations in the city.
For the first time within the framework of Zagreb Design Week a Concept Store will be set up where visitors will have a chance to see numerous premieres of Croatian and world designers and buy the best design products on the Croatian market. The entire program will culminate in the Night of Design on 10 May.
The goals of Zagreb Design Week are strengthening Croatian society and economy by incorporating design in all its spheres as well as recognising Croatian designers. It is organisers’ wish to promote Zagreb as a regional centre of creative industries.
The event has been held since 2014 and last year it was seen by 25000 visitors.
