Zagreb once again hosts the global tennis greats

Since 2006, at the beginning of each year, Zagreb has been welcoming the world’s most renowned tennis players. This winter, between the 2nd and the 10th of February, it will be host to numerous male tennis stars who traditionally participate in the PBZ Zagreb Indoors, a tournament the organizers call “a tournament that is much more than the tournament itself” due to various concurrent events.

Since 2006, the PBZ Zagreb Indoors tournament has been the first European event of the ATP calendar year for male tennis players. Therefore, once again, this year, from the 2nd until the 10th of February, it will bring together many renowned tennis players from around the globe.

Apart from the biggest stars of Croatian tennis – Marin Čilić, currently ranked 15th on the ATP list, Ivan Dodig (ranked 72nd), and Ivo Karlović (ranked 100th), the 8th edition of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors tournament will also feature numerous international stars, including Mikhail Youzhny from Russia (ranked 25th) and Marcos Baghdatis, currently ranked 36th.

Judging by last year’s results of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors, this year’s final is to include Mikhail Youzhny, who became the first player to win the title in both categories in Zagreb during last year’s tournament. However, since title winners in the previous editions were younger Croatian players, for example - Ivan Ljubičić in 2009, Marin Čilić in 2010 and Ivan Dodig in 2011, the numerous visitors who are expected to attend can look forward to tough competition once again this year.

The prize for winning the tournament is 450 thousand euros, and tickets for the events can be purchased via Eventim.

The organizers of the tournament, who call PBZ Zagreb Indoors “a tournament that is much more than the tournament itself” will make sure that the event is not just about tennis.  During the tournament, visitors will also find entertainment in various other events. Like in previous years, there will be a Ladies' Day, Players' Party, Champions' Day and a Kids' Day, during which the youngest visitors will be joined by the popular character of the Croatian literary and animated world, Apprentice Hlapić, who was created one hundred years ago by the great Croatian writer Ivana Brlić Mažuranić.

The tournament will take place at Dom Sportova Sports Hall, and more information about the programme itself will be accessible to anyone interested online at http://www.zagrebindoors.com/.
