Museums outside Museums: A Unique Cultural Manifestation in the Heart of the City
If you want to get to know a part of a rich city heritage preserved by museums in Zagreb, go for a walk in Ban Josip Jelačić Square where a unique cultural manifestation, Museums outside Museums, will take place.
Museums outside Museums will take place from 10 to 17 May in Ban Josip Jelačić Square for the second time. The organisers of this unique event, which attracted more than twenty thousand visitors last year, are the Croatian Natural History Museum and Zagreb Tourist Board.
Through this project museums are stepping outside of their buildings in order to present rich cultural heritage to visitors and to further widen cultural and tourism offer of Zagreb in an innovative way by presenting its museums.
As many as seven museums will be presented in the MIM pavilion, an impressive and appealing installation in a form of an airy wooden structure shaped like a large nest in which participating museums will be located. In addition to the Croatian Natural History Museum, these are the Archaeological museum in Zagreb, the Museum of Arts and Crafts, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Technical Museum Nikola Tesla, the Croatian History Museum, the Ethnographic Museum and the Museum Documentation Centre as well as the Radboa Museum visiting from Radoboj. Each of the museums will be presented with a carefully designed, suitable exposition and all will participate in the realisation of numerous workshops and lectures.
The main attraction of this year’s manifestation Museums outside Museums will be a replica of a dinosaur from the group Theropoda which is believed to have lived in the area of today’s Istrian Peninsula.
The opening of this unique manifestation will take place on 10 May at 5pm, and the entrance to all events is free of charge.
