A concert by the country legend Dale Watson
In Tvornica Kulture on January 20th, fans of old, original country music will have an opportunity to enjoy a performance by legendary country singer Dale Watson, who will be promoting his latest album, “The Sun Sessions”. However, you can certainly expect to hear his old hits as well.
One of the last greats of original country music, the legendary Dave Watson, has decided to once again visit Zagreb as part of his latest European tour, where he will hold a concert at Tvornica Kulture on January 20th, the same venue as two years ago, when he was welcomed by a large enthusiastic audience.
Although fans of country music are aware of numerous commercialized forms of this typically American music genre, many will agree that the original country sound is seldom heard nowadays. This, however, does not include Dale Watson, a singer who has remained true to the original tradition from the beginning.
He wrote his first songs as a twelve year old, and went on to play in clubs and honky-tonk bars after graduating from high school. He moved from Alabama to Los Angeles, and then on to Nashville, literally escaping, like so many of his predecessors, from the commercialized country music industry. His new goal was the cradle of the country, the city of Austin in Texas, where he has lived since the mid 1990s. That is where he recorded several excellent albums; “Cheatin' Heart Attack”, “Blessed or Damned”, “I Hate These Songs” and “The Truckin' Sessions”. He has, in fact, recorded many more, 22 in total, for which he received numerous awards. In spite of all his business success, he has not had good fortune in his private life.
Having lost his fiancée in a traffic accident, his spirits dropped and he fell into a deep state of depression, neglecting his life and career. Luckily, however, subjects of life, which are frequent themes of his songs, have put him back on stage where he belongs. He proved he has great strength in him with the latest album, “The Sun Sessions”, which he is promoting on this tour. The album was recorded in late 2011 at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, and it contains 14 new songs. He dedicated the whole project to the legends of rock’ n’ roll: Cash, Elvis and Carl Perkins.
