A Healthy Spirit in a Healthy Body – Sport in December
You can also run throughout December, cheerfully and joyfully, whether you’re an amateur or a professional.
There are very few races in this world which start with the question “Can I run up 490 steps and climb to the 25th floor of the Zagrepčanka building?” Who can and who cannot we will find out on 8 December at the Zagrepčanka 512 Race. This year’s race brings participants some new things. They will be able to decide whether to run solo, in a pair or run the mega challenge! The solo race is one in which solo runners run alone as best they can. The pairs version brings in teamwork, with two people making the ascent, one man and one woman whose results are combined. The mega race is for those with most endurance. They have to make two ascents in one day, and the combined results will give us the King and Queen of Zagrepčanka!
On 16 December there will be a race through the centre of Zagreb. The unique fancy dress Zagreb Advent Run is part of the Zagreb Christmas market experience. The run will for the third year running gather hundreds of participants dressed as Santa, fairies, elves, reindeer and other Christmas characters. They will run together for 5 or 10 kilometres through the very centre of Zagreb. All runners have to fulfil just one obligation: to bring us all Christmas cheer. The race is a charity fundraiser and this year is dedicated to raising awareness of the benefits of physical exercise for diabetes sufferers.
The night of 8 December brings us a boxing extravaganza in the Dražen Petrović Basketball Hall. The Croatian champion, the big-hearted heavyweight Filip Hrgović, Olympic bronze medal winner, returns to his home city to defend the international WBC title. His opponent is Ytalo Perea of Ecuador. Filip Hrgović – on the hunt!
