Advent period: The Nutcracker Performed by the Ukrainian Classical Ballet

Staging of the ballet The Nutcracker contributes to the beautiful Advent atmosphere in Zagreb. In addition to the traditional performances of the ballet in the Croatian National Theatre, this year two performances of the Ukrainian Classical Ballet will be put on.

The Ukrainian Classical Ballet will put on a music and theatre spectacle, a famous ballet The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky, in the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert hall. This Christmas fairy tale is told through choreography by Valery Petrovich Kovtun, one of the most famous choreographers, a ballet master and a recipient of numerous awards and international recognitions. The popularity of this ensemble’s performances is proven by the fact that they give around 300 ballet shows annually, 70 of which were The Nutcracker last year. Their renditions are characterized by classical ballet with a modern twist, which makes them one of a kind in the world. Also their performance of The Nutcracker is also completely different from classical performances.

The ensemble consists of brilliant dancers, principal dancers and soloists of Ukrainian national theatres who cherish the tradition of Russian ballet and ballet school. Due to a great interest, another performance is to be held on 16 December in addition to the performance announced for 15 December.

This performance of the Ukrainian Classical Ballet in the Vatroslav Lisinski Hall will certainly contribute to the appeal of Zagreb during holidays. It should be noted that the Advent festivities in Zagreb have been voted the best in Europe for three consecutive years, after which they could no longer compete. However, they continue to thrill citizens and numerous visitors of Zagreb from the entire world with a string of new activities and surprises.
