As if time had stopped
If you wish to experience the spirit of the past or taste dishes prepared in an old-fashioned ways, or if you wish to be reminded of childhood flavours, a visit to the restaurant V Starem Melinu is the perfect opportunity.
Restaurant V Starem Melinu, a gastronomic trip down memory lane, was opened in mid-November in Gornji Stenjevec, a part of Zagreb on the very edge of the Medvednica Nature Park.
The restaurant is located next to a 16th century mill, in a house on one of the best preserved feudal estates in Croatia, where noble families have lived for centuries. The renovated old mill, which produced flour until the late 1970s, is once again spinning thanks to the Dubravica stream. The Hanzec family renovated the mill and opened the restaurant, investing much effort, knowledge and money into decorating the original interior as well as creating an autochthonous offer.
Homemade bread, žganci (similar to polenta) and štrukli made from locally milled flour, as well as many other indigenous specialties of the Croatian Zagorje region, enjoyed in a unique ambiance, truly take guests back in time…
