Enjoy the Best Tourist Films in the World

The Zagreb Tourfilm Festival has become a candidate for membership in CIFFT (Comité International des Festivals du Film Touristique) giving it the right to show the best tourist films in the world in the Croatian metropolis. The first edition of the festival will be held at the Mimara Museum from 4th to 6th July.

In the past, the city of Zagreb has been the recipient of rewards at various international tourist film festivals. This year, for the first time, it will actually be the host of such an important festival: 1st Zagreb Tourfilm Festival is scheduled to take place at the Mimara Museum between 4th and 6th July.

The main organizers of the festival are Balduči Film and the Zagreb Tourist Board. The festival got the go ahead after the candidacy of Croatia as a member of CIFFT (Comité International des Festivals du Film Touristique) was confirmed. CIFFT’s members are the leading international film festivals, including many European events, as well as those held in Brazil, USA, etc. CIFFT is regularly supported by global institutions such as UNWTO (World Tourism Organization), ETC (European Travel Commission), PATA (Pacific Tourist Organization) and CTO (Caribbean Tourism).

At Zagreb’s first festival, the audience can look forward to the best films from as many as 37 countries worldwide which will be selected by a five-member board composed of relevant European authorities, among them the CIFFT director himself. The president of the selection board is our own Ðelo Hadžiselimović – the best known Croatian TV editor and undoubtedly the biggest authority on documentary programming in this area.

This provides a good enough guarantee that Zagreb's audiences are indeed in for a treat and that they will see only the best of the best. All the films will be shown and rewarded in four main categories. The first comprises short commercial videos up to two minutes long. The second category is made up of promotional films of up to seven minutes long. The third category comprises films lasting up to 60 minutes, whereas the last, fourth category, has been split into TV reportages and TV documentaries.

The films selected to be shown during the festival will cover different types of tourist attractions, including the promotion of tourist destinations, the offer of adventure holidays, extreme sports, nautical tourism, hotels, resorts, people, culture, traditions, religious and rural tourism and many other specific types of offers.

During the festival there will also be a round table to discuss new technological capabilities and ideas for filming and editing promotional spots and films.

The Zagreb Tourfilm Festival is being promoted as a “festival with a million hearts” in view of the fact that Zagreb itself has been lovingly dubbed a city with a million hearts, which is why the rewards for the winners will come in the shape of licitar hearts.
