Intriguing works by masters theatre directors
Between September 19th and 28th, the programmes of the 12th Festival of World Theatre will take place at various locations in Zagreb. Once again this year, the festival will present the most intriguing works by masters of theatre direction.
Once again, this year’s Festival of World Theatre will bring the most intriguing works by master theatre directors to Zagreb’s theatres. The festival will take place between September 19th and 28th in the Croatian National Theatre, the Zagreb Youth Theatre and the Travno Scene, as well as at some outdoor venues in the city centre. A total of five theatre pieces will be shown. As a Croatian first, the festival will bring to Zagreb one of the greatest German theatre directors, Martin Kušej, and the British film and theatre director, Declan Donnellan. The troupe of Munich’s Residenztheater will thus present Kušej’s “The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant”, while the actors of the British theatre Cheek by Jowl, founded by Donnellan, will be directed by him in “King Ubu”.
The Australian Back to Back Theatre is coming to Zagreb to present the play “Ganesh Versus the Third Reich” directed by Bruce Gladwin, and the Belgian Peeping Tom, whose work is already well known to Zagreb’s audiences, will perform the play “Father” directed by Franck Chartier. Angelica Liddel’s play, “You are my Destiny (The Rape of Lucretia)”, performed by the actors of the Spanish Atra Bilis Teatro and co-produced by the Festival of World Theatre, will make its world premiere at the Croatian National Theatre.
This will be the 12th consecutive edition of the Festival of World Theatre. More information and the festival’s programme can be found at www.zagrebtheatrefestival.hr.
