Lauba, The House for People and Art, has been nominated as the European museum of the year in an annual competition that has been organized by the European Museum since 1977. This prize is awarded to museums that stand out in terms of innovation and public quality.
The European Museum Forum operates under the auspices of the European Council, with the goal of developing the public quality of European museums. Museums from 47 European Council member states may be nominated in this competition. This year’s winner will be announced during a ceremony in the Estonian capital, Tallinn, taking place between May 14th and 17th.
The Lauba “house” is a unique space where art exhibitions coexist with day-to-day social life. Apart from an exhibition area with a non-permanent exhibit which is constantly expanded to include new works by Croatian artists, the house also serves as a laboratory for art experiments and a place for cultural innovations. The space also features other exhibitions and various concurrent events aimed at presenting new forms of artistic expression by Croatian visual artists, as well as raising the awareness of Croatian contemporary art and partaking in international cultural developments.
