Mark Knopfler – the guitar virtuoso of Dire Straits!

The legendary guitarist and Dire Straits frontman, Mark Knopfler, is coming to Zagreb on 5 May 2013. There is still plenty of time to purchase a ticket; however, beware, they have been on sale since September. So, if you want to be sure to hear the famous virtuoso performing live, rush to pick up your ticket and do not miss what promises to be an unforgettable music event!

Many generations have grown up listening to the great Dire Straits and their hit songs, such as Sultans of Swing, Money for Nothing and Walk of Life, but probably only a few have had the chance to see them in concert. The citizens of Zagreb are, therefore, very fortunate to have the legendary Mark Knopfler, the frontman of Dire Straits and one of the greatest guitarists in the world, visit their city once again. He will hold a big concert at the Zagreb Arena on 5 May next year.

Although he made Dire Straits immensely famous, his very successful solo career, during which he has recorded eight studio albums, is even more remarkable. His latest album, “Privateering”, is the reason he is starting yet another world tour in April next year, during which he will perform 72 concerts in 25 countries. He will perform with his eight-member band at the Zagreb Arena, and apart from 20 songs from his latest album (his first double album), he will also play some of his older numbers including, of course, some of the greatest hits from the Dire Straits period.

In a career that spans 35 years, Mark Knopfler has become one of the most highly regarded guitarists in the world, and he has recently received the British “Ivor Novello” lifetime achievement award. Throughout his career, as a solo performer as well as the frontman of Dire Straits, he has sold over 120 million albums. This year he will be marking twenty years since the last performance of the great band.

As the author of numerous songs and as a singer-songwriter he has also won several Grammy Awards, and during his long career he has produced albums by greats such as Bob Dylan and Randy Newman, as well as scored music for films such as Cal, Local Hero, A Shot of Glory and Princess Bride.

Considering his very successful career and outstanding reputation, Mark Knopfler’s upcoming tour of Europe and America will most certainly be a spectacle. No less is expected in Zagreb, much like five years ago when he treated Croats to his masterful skills for the first time.
