The third Photo Marathon coming soon

The third Photo Marathon, which will take place in Zagreb in September, will once again attract a large number of competitors who will have the task to take 24 photos in 12 hours. In 2007, Zagreb joined the photography contest that started in Copenhagen and subsequently conquered numerous cities worldwide.

The concept of the contest, which will take place on September 11th, starting at the main city square of ban Josip Jelačić, is for every participant to take 24 photos according to assigned themes.

They will find out what the first eight themes are at the start, but the participants will have to find out the motifs for the other two theme categories at two checkpoints along the way. Submitted photographs must be shot in order of the assigned themes.

The total time of the competition is 12 hours, so the contestants will have an average of 30 minutes to take each photo. To encourage originality and obtain in as many different interpretations as possible, themes are generally abstract, and photographs that deal with the same themes are interesting for comparison as reflections of the photographers’ individual personalities as well as their subjective approaches.

The sponsor of the Photo Marathon is the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, where the photographs will be exhibited. Valuable prizes await the winners of the competition.

This type of photographic competition was first held in Copenhagen in 1989, but many other cities including Berlin, Vienna, London, and Prague have joined in since its inception…
