The world’s best tourism films in Zagreb
More than 300 tourism films are in competition to win prizes at the 3rd Zagreb Tourfilm Festival, which is an interesting review of such works from all over the globe, but also an opportunity to discuss the past, present and future of tourism film.
The 3rd International festival of tourism film, Zagreb Tourfilm Festival, since last year a fully-fledged member of CIFFT (International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals), will take place between June 4th and 6th at the Mimara Museum. The sponsors of this festival are the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipović, the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Croatia, the Mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandić, and the Zagreb Tourist Board.
During the three festival days, visitors will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the best tourism films from all over the world. The competition includes more than 300 films from 61 countries, including those from exotic countries such as Bangladesh, Columbia, Peru, Bolivia, Laos, India, Myanmar, United Arab Emirates, Australia, the Philippines, etc. The selected films feature various themes, ranging from the promotion of tourist destinations, to adventure offers, extreme sports, nautical tourism, hotels and resorts, different cultures and traditions, to religious and rural tourism.
The selected films, divided into four categories, will be screened as part of a film marathon on June 5th between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. at the Mimara Museum. Entry to all screenings is free. The best films will be chosen by a board consisting of the most relevant Croatian and European experts.
Apart from the film screenings, the festival will also feature a diverse concurrent programme, including themed discussions on film as a means of promoting tourism, travel reports as a neglected category, rural tourism, etc. There will be a presentation on the history of tourism film, but also a discussion about new technologies of the future. Visitors will also have the opportunity to talk to the film authors.
Besides the CIFFT director, Alexander Kammel, the festival will also be attended by directors of numerous similar festivals from Greece, Poland, Austria, France, Bulgaria and Portugal, who will present their own festivals. Foreign guests will have the opportunity to embark on a day trip as well as attend a presentation on the tourism offer of Zagreb and Opatija.
