The City of Zagreb and the Zagreb Tourist Board has gifted a Christmas tree to the City of Berlin for the upcoming festive season which will adorn the Gendarmenmarkt Platz.

With the help of Ethnographic Museum, the 25-meter-high tree is ornamented with traditional decorations typical of Zagreb - replicas of 400 gingerbread hearts in 400 Christmas balls. It also has 400 little mirrors and the same number of traditional wooden toys from Hrvatsko zagorje. The gingerbread heart is the most popular symbol of Croatia and is a souvenir of the city of Zagreb. It expresses welcome and love for all the people.

The Mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandić presented the tree to his counterpart in Berlin, Mr. Klaus Wowereit, at 6:30 pm at a symbolic Christmas tree lighting ceremony. A folklore performance accompanied the event. On this occasion, both Mayors wished the citizens of Zagreb and Berlin a merry and blessed Christmas. The Zagreb Tourist Board gifted all those present with typical gingerbread hearts and cakes and invited everybody to visit Zagreb during the Advent period.
