As of recently, the oldest building on Zagreb’s Radnička Street (Workers’ Street) now features a newly opened private gallery – RaGa, or the Workers’ Gallery. Apart from works from the owner’s impressive collection, the gallery will occasionally feature works by renowned international artists such as Anthony Slessor, whose exhibition “44.4 seconds” officially opened the gallery.

The opening of the newest location for comic-book enthusiasts confirms Zagreb’s reputation as a city of 9th Art. At the new comic-book store Lastan, spreading across 90 square meters of space on Radnička Street, customers can find more than ten thousand titles, flip through old, valuable issues and buy assorted souvenirs depicting various comic-book heroes.

Sculptures from the Interscapes series dating from the early 1990s, and multimedia installations from the Collectors series created in 2000, are part of the opus donated by the internationally renowned artist Duba Sambolec called “Object Without Dignity”. Visitors to Zagreb’s Museum of Contemporary Art will have the opportunity to see it until 2 September.

Having visited Zagreb, or any other city for that matter, many tourists will welcome the opportunity to buy souvenirs. Instead of something traditional and typical of Zagreb (and Croatia), the museum and theatre souvenir shops offer creative and unique mementos which conjure up some of the cultural traditions the visitors may have experienced in the city.

Since it was opened in 1874, the Palainovka Café in the Upper Town has become and remains one of Zagrebers’ favourite spots. This cult gathering place has been refurbished many times throughout its long history, but its purpose has never changed. It was reopened once again in mid-July, and is even more beautiful than ever after yet another total make-over.

Strollers through Tuškanac, the leafy oasis in the very centre of the city, can look forward to a special treat: after 42 years they can again enjoy an outdoor movie-watching experience on the stage of the Tuškanac Summer Cinema. Throughout the summer and autumn there will be projections of blockbusters and lesser known movies, concerts, exhibitions and shows.

Opatovina in the Upper Town will again become a stage where the actors of the Histrion Theatre Troupe will appear every day until 2 September during the 27th Zagreb Histrion Summer.

If you ever wanted to take a journey into the past and participate in a typical medieval event together with other characters such as knights, ladies-in-waiting, jesters and other costume clad entertainers, you will have the opportunity between 23 and 26 August in the main city square in Zagreb which will become the venue of the fascinating Marko’s Fair for the 12th consecutive time.
