A Flower Oasis at Bundek Lake
Once again, this year, between May 29th and June 5th, the Bundek Lake will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors during the popular international garden exhibition Floraart, which is taking place for the 48th consecutive year.
Once again, this year, Zagreb’s Bundek Lake will turn into the city’s most beautiful flower oasis to the delight of the hundreds of thousands of visitors at the international garden exhibition Floraart. It is being organised between May 29th and June 5th for the 48th consecutive year as the most significant horticultural event in Zagreb.
The tradition of flower shows in Zagreb reaches into the distant past and has roots in the 19th century. Those early shows, in their turn, relied on the tradition of Zagreb’s gardens from the Middle Ages, which were the foundation of the city’s park culture. Among these parks is Maksimir, which was opened in 1839, featuring English landscape styling. Other quite famous landscape sights in the city are the parks of the so-called Green Horseshoe in the Lower Town, which connect seven squares and the Botanical Gardens into one urban entity. Therefore, Zagreb’s citizens have a habit of frequenting such expos, which are equally enjoyed by all generations and entire families who regularly visit this “flowery” event.
This year’s international gardening exhibition Floraart will spread across an outdoor surface of more than thirty hectares, as well as more than two thousand square metres of indoor space. It will feature over 150 exhibitors of flower arrangements from Croatia and ten exhibitors from Austria, France, Italy, Hungary, Germany and the United States. Visitors of the exhibition will also have the opportunity to partake in creative cactus and flower-bouquet arranging workshops, lectures on growing and caring for flowers, and enjoy various culture and entertainment shows. They will also have the opportunity to buy flowers, gardening tools and equipment for children’s gardens and playgrounds at discount prices.
Taking place as part of the international garden exhibit Floraart, there will be a Croatian Florists Cup, with participants competing in four categories, as well as an international flower arranging competition for high-school students.
