A holiday atmosphere with the “Angels in Harlem” Gospel Choir

The best known gospel choir in the world, the “Angels in Harlem” Gospel Choir from New York, will be holding a concert in Zagreb for the first time. Featuring a repertoire of Christmas songs, the concert will take place on December 4th at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.

The festive atmosphere in town will be additionally fuelled by the best known gospel choir in the world, the “Angels in Harlem” Gospel Choir, which will perform a concert with a repertoire of popular Christmas songs on December 4th at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. We believe that this information will bring joy to numerous citizens of Zagreb as well as the city’s guests, as this will be the first ever performance by this famous choir in Croatia’s capital.
The concert is being organized by Artim Productions, and the choir will treat the audience to its most popular repertoire of Christmas carols, such as Silent Night and God Bless the Child, followed by an array of Negro spirituals, such as Happy Day and Amazing Grace, as well as other pop music hits. The choir will perform its main line-up with support from their backing band, which will additionally fuel the inspirational atmosphere that the New York choir always creates onstage.


The “Angels in Harlem” Gospel Choir was founded in 1986 in New York and the original line-up has remained the same to this day. The founder of the choir, Allen Bailey, has also been a promoter of other famous artists, such as Lionel Ritchie & the Commodores, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Isaac Hayes, which has greatly influenced the development of the choir itself. In its prolific career, the gospel choir has worked with some of the greatest musicians of our time, such as the Irish band U2, The Chieftains, Diana Ross, Whoopi Goldberg, Harry Belafonte, Dixie Hummingbirds, Jimmy Cliff, Lyle Lovett, and Lisa Marie Presley. With their interpretation of popular songs, the choir easily managed to gain popularity among wide audiences, regardless of religious beliefs and affiliations.


Their mission is to promote the Afro-American culture through gospel, which is certainly being achieved through their dynamic performances. By nurturing the culture of their native Harlem, they have also been named Angelic Ambassadors of Harlem. Citizens of Zagreb will soon have an opportunity to find out what they sound like live and what it is about their songs that attracts such a widespread audience, including world leaders Barack Obama and Nelson Mandela.
