A theatre under the stars
Once again, throughout this summer, actors of the Histrion troupe will descend upon the open space of Opatovina in the Upper Town, thereby marking the 25th anniversary of an interesting summer theatre event in Zagreb.
In an array of cultural events ongoing in the Upper Town, the open-air theatre scene will be marked by the 25th Zagreb Histrion Summer. Once again, this year, the beautiful ambiance of Opatovina will be the venue for plays performed by the Histrion troupe in a sold-out theatre under the stars.
This year’s Zagreb Histrion Summer will begin on July 3rd with a concert “Zagreb, my love” (“Moj Zagreb tak imam te rad”), which will open this quarter-of-a-century-old cultural event.
The concert will be performed by Croatian singer-songwriter Arsen Dedić with the backing by actors Zlatko Vitez, Adam Končić, Vid Balog and Sanja Marin, as well as musicians Branko Bulić Bule, Zvonimir Presečki and the Histrion band.
On the open-air stage in Opatovina, the Histrion troupe will be performing the play “Hypochondriac” between the 6th and the 25th of July, while “The Hunting Horn” will be performed between July 25th and September 5th.
The Histrion troupe was founded in 1975 by actor and current manager, as well as director and producer, Zlatko Vitez. Since it was without a permanent home address for a long time, the troupe had the reputation of a travelling theatre, which performed plays not only in Croatia, but also in numerous countries throughout Europe as well as cities in America.
In the 35 years of existence, the troupe has performed sixty premieres.
