Concert Hall Celebrates 35 Years

Towards the end of this year, the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will mark a notable anniversary – 35 years of work, during which it has built not only a rich music and stage repertoire, but also the status of a powerful and influential cultural institution which has organized some of the top cultural events in Zagreb.

This year, the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall marks the 35th anniversary of its work. The hall bears the name of the great Croatian composer, the author of the first Croatian opera, “Love and Malice”, which premiered in 1846. From the moment the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall opened its doors to audiences it has become a true temple of music which has hosted appearances by the greatest names in the world of classical music. The most famous chamber and symphony orchestras have demonstrated their musical skills before audiences in Lisinski Hall, as have the best known soloists and conductors. The concert hall has also organized a number of concerts by top musicians of all genres. It has served as the stage for opera, ballet and theater performances, as well as the venue of many international congresses and conventions. Every year, between 12 and 13 different thematic music programs are organized in the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall and this music and congress center records over 760 thousand visitors annually. A total of 450 different shows were put together last year alone, and this year’s rich repertoire features some of the greatest international names. It suffices to mention but a few, such as the highly sought after appearance by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, rarely seen outside of the United States of America. They are scheduled to perform on 5 February. Furthermore, in April, audiences will have the opportunity to listen to the Chilean Symphony Orchestra and the Russian National Orchestra, whereas, a concert by the Salzburg Chamber Orchestra has been scheduled for the month of May.

The Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall has a big hall with 1841 seats and a small hall with 305 seats. There are also four meeting salons and a large multifunctional lobby suitable for organizing various exhibition and cocktail parties. The very pleasant Viennese-style café, Lisinski, can be found on the ground floor. The concert hall is close to the Regent Esplanade Zagreb Hotel and the recently refurbished International Hotel.
